“What's good for the country is good for General Motors, and vice versa.”

“What's good for the country is good for General Motors, and vice versa.”  The quote was from Charlie Smith who was being questioned by the Arms Services Committee back in 1953.  Charlie was, at the time, the President of GM and nominated by President Eisenhower to become Defense Secretary.

Here is another quote from 1936, "By the end of 1936, General Motors not only was the largest of American corporations, but by virtue of its success had become independent of Wall Street financing."

-- "Chrome Colossus

You have heard “What's good for the country is good for General Motors, and vice versa.”   the quote numerous times throughout the 50's , 60's and 70's. However, literary license was given to anyone repeating the quote and it became reversed to "What's good for General Motors is good for the Country."    Today we realize what has happened to GM will ultimately happen to the United States. The fuse has been lit, the union takeover of the reins of government is upon us.

The socialist union bankrupted GM, with the complicity of management who caved in to their demands. If the proposals on the table are accepted, GM will now be owned in the majority by the unions and the United States Government. The bondholders who supplied the funds over the years will be playing second fiddle, their 27 billion dollars crashed.

You the taxpayer, you Joe the Voter, who diligently go to work everyday is being slapped in the face by your government. They have doled out to the automobile companies over $25,000,0000,000. That is 25 with a "B" billion dollars to keep the dinosaurs alive. Union workers employed by these companies make close to $70 per hour with benefits. Though their lobbying efforts they have been able to put the proverbial gun to the head of those occupying the White House. Another bailout, another 50 billion.  Giving away the taxpayers money is no problem because it is your money. Free markets are not for them, they are privileged. If their companies fail because of high wages, they go to Uncle Sam with their hands out. But remember that you Joe the taxpayer makes on average $20 per hour with benefits.  Who represents you? No justice for the Average Joe.

As in any automobile race, the finish line is in sight, the United States Junk Bond Mobile is not in the lead yet, but it is headed toward the finish.  Barack Obama, the Son of Uncle Sam is at the wheel. The car has stickers plastered all over it, they are on its doors, fenders, bumpers and hood. A glimpse of those stickers revealed its sponsors. The UAW, AFSCME, Teamsters, AFL-CIO , Harry Reid, Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Chris Dodd, Arlen Specter, Rosa Delauro, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins and Friends of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin.  Below is a picture of that car as it crosses the finish line in. By the way it was brand spanking new at the start of the race.
