CASH FOR CLUNKER
The cash for clunkers program is in full swing. This is a handout to the UAW who bankrupted the company with their shakedown tactics. Management of GM was also complicit, they had chocolate you know what instead of brass you know what. This program started with 1 billion dollars and now is in the process of adding another 2 billion dollars of tax payer money. Hard working people subsidizing a soon to be bankrupt again government motors (GM). Some non union citizens who are not affiliated with the automobile may benefit, but this is an aside due to the long run implications of governments intrusion into the free markets.
In days, weeks, years and decades ahead, the union machine will be at the forefront of all bailouts, unless it is stopped in its tracks today. They are pressing for "card check" which is a union technique created to shake down employers legally, Union can gather signatures from employees without the benefit of a secret ballot by intimidation. Remember union wages are far higher than they would be if a free market existed. And since 88% of the public is not represented by a union, they pay higher prices for goods and services provided by companies, cities and states that have union personnel. This amounts to a mob style hit on the non-union wage earner.
We do not rally against union labor when the game is fair. For instance, unions who represent workers in the coal, steel, defense and construction industries have affectively secured rights for their employees in free and open contract negotiations. The companies who employ them are very cognizant of the bottom line which will guide their decision on what their companies can afford. This does not hold true in local , state and federal labor negotiations, the mandated arbitration clauses have a detrimental effect on the ultimate contract. This is due to the arbitration boards that are made up of union partisans.
Back to GM, the company was bankrupt and seeking government help. You may ask why the most iconic of companies went bankrupt. Nobody wanted their pitiful product and because they had a huge labor intense overhead, they folded up like one of their cheap cars during a head on collision. The UAW and their brother unions from the AFL-CIO, SEIU, AFSCME etc. were heavy supporters of Obama during the last election. Therefore they pressured the administration to bail out GM and Chrysler, a quid pro quo scenario. Not only did they bail these companies out, it soon became apparent that nobody wanted their product after the bailout. A new scheme was adapted, called cash for clunkers. This has created present demand but will hurt future demand, an unnatural market created by the cash incentive for gas guzzlers. The future for GM and Chrysler, which the American taxpayer gave to our friends in Italy (FIAT) for free with a check of 2 billion to boot, for taking Chrysler off our hands. Cash for clunkers will turn out to be another government run clunker program, like all of those that came before them.
These beautiful hot rods from days gone by are perfect examples of what is right in America, good hard working men and women finding enjoyment in building cars from the ground up. Hot rods that exemplify the good old days. It is the Patriot that yearns for the days past and look forward to the days ahead without government putting a bigger hand in their pocket. These Americans are at the forefront of today's movement. They are sort of speak, the driving force. Enjoy the pictures.
