OBAMA AND ROOSEVELT

Go back to the good old days, 1932, the election of our First Messiah, Franklin Delano Roosevelt; he had the Country so bamboozled, he was elected President 4 times. He was at the helm of the Mother of All Depressions. When he took office, the country was in dire straights, not of his own making, but one which needed to be addressed and in a hurry. This did not happen.

Our economy came to a standstill, the main cuprit was not the free enterprise system, the main cuprit was Government. Congress passed the Hoot-Smalley Tarriff Act.  By itself, this act caused world trade to freeze up. The main goal was to protect American jobs and farmers from foreign competition.

The SmootHawley Tariff or HawleySmoot Tariff (P.L. 71-361, officially named, the Tariff Act of 1930) was an act signed into law on June 17, 1930, that raised U.S. tariffs on over 20,000 imported goods to record levels.

The overall level tariffs under the Tariff were the second-highest in US history, exceeded only (by a small margin) by the Tariff of 1868 and the ensuing retaliatory tariffs by U.S. trading partners reduced American exports and imports by more than half. Some economists have opined that the tariffs contributed to the severity of the Great Depression.

Roosevelt tried everything, from government intervention to setting up new agencies and programs. A short history follows:

By 1936, the main economic indicators had regained the levels of the late 1920s, except for unemployment, which remained high at 11%, although this was considerably lower than the 25% unemployment rate seen in 1933. In the spring of 1937, American industrial production exceeded that of 1929 and remained level until June 1937. In June 1937, the Roosevelt administration cut spending and increased taxation in an attempt to balance the federal budget. The American economy then took a sharp downturn, lasting for 13 months through most of 1938. Industrial production fell almost 30 per cent within a few months and production of durable goods fell even faster. Unemployment jumped from 14.3% in 1937 to 19.0% in 1938, rising from 5 million to more than 12 million in early 1938. Manufacturing output fell by 37% from the 1937 peak and was back to 1934 levels. Producers reduced their expenditures on durable goods, and inventories declined, but personal income was only 15% lower than it had been at the peak in 1937. As unemployment rose, consumers' expenditures declined, leading to further cutbacks in production. By May 1938 retail sales began to increase, employment improved, and industrial production turned up after June 1938. After the recovery from the Recession of 1937–1938, conservatives were able to form a bipartisan conservative coalition to stop further expansion of the New Deal and, when unemployment dropped to 2%, they abolished WPA, CCC and the PWA relief programs. Social Security, however, remained in place.

We now have come full circle, with the election of Obama, the Second Messiah. Past socialist policies which that threw cold water on the economy are surfacing again. Obama, Holder, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Dodd, Frank, Waters, Stoyer, WaxmanCuomo, Boxer, Lieberman and their ilk are our enemy. They need to be reckoned with. Obama has passed Obamacare, and is intent on usurping our First Amendment Rights by condoning the Disclosure Act and he is now only a few steps away from  passing Cap n' Trade, not to be outdone by the Mother of Criminality by giving Citizen Status to 15 million illegal aliens.  America Stand Up for Your Rights, Your Culture Your Dignity and Your Values. These are what made American Great, our common goals, our common heritage, our common culture, our common values. Law breakers on the other hand have not.  Legal Aliens built this country. Obama has done more to destroy the free enterprise - private sector- in two years, then what the past 7 presidents could not do. We are on the road to oblivion, a road to self destruction. We need change now, tomorrow is too late.
