WHAT WE ARE UP AGAINST!, THE GOVERNMENT HIDING BEHIND THE ROBES OF JUSTICE

THE UNION MONSTER: The Confederacy of Greed is hard at work in Thomaston, where AFSCME Council 4 is trying to get a court to call a sensible act of fiscal duty "retaliation." After taxpayers voted down a 2010-11 budget, First Selectman Edmond V. Mone gave the finance board with a list of possible staffing cuts, but only one employee, a public-works mechanic, was laid off. But the union complained to the state Board of Labor Relations the layoff was retaliatory since the employee was a member of the only union that declined to offer concessions. If the union wins, the result could reverberate through Connecticut as government-employee unions refuse requests for concessions and give backs, knowing they can block subsequent layoffs by claiming "retaliation." And municipalities will be afraid to lay off anyone for fear of protracted litigation. Never was the need more pressing for voters to elect a governor and legislators who will rein in this rampaging, voracious monster.

We need not say more. These acrimonious situations are happening from coast to coast, from California to Connecticut, where unions have sought the help of the courts and state labor boards. "We the People" cannot win this war, and we say war because it is a war, unless a new American Revolution occurs. The unions representing employees of the various state and federal governments will not share the pain of the present economic contraction. The longer this injustice prevails, the more violent the confrontation between "WE THE PEOPLE" and the public servants working for us will be.  We have not asked for a fight, it has been thrust upon us, but we will confront it with all of the power within us.
