Tomorrow, Tuesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on the nomination of Elena Kagan to the US Supreme Court.

 Senate Judiciary Rule IV states:  "If there is objection to bring the matter to a vote without further debate, a roll call vote of the Committee shall be taken, and debate shall be terminated if the motion to bring the matter to a vote without further debate passes with ten votes in the affirmative, one of which must be cast by the minority."   

 

In other words, Elena Kagan needs at least one lukewarm Republican on the committee to vote for her and the nomination will go to the full Senate.  Given his ambiguous remarks, there is growing concern that Senator Graham will be the only Republican vote on the Committee to vote for Kagan.  
 
Please call Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC, 202-224-5972) and ask him to "Please vote against the nomination of Elena Kagan. She is not qualified for the US Supreme Court. She does not represent the values of Massachusetts, nor the nation. Thank you."
 
Should Kagan’s nomination advance, it can still be stopped by a filibuster, or by a full Senate vote. That’s why we’re asking that you:
 
Call Senator Scott Brown at 202-224-4543, or 617-565-3170, and ask that he oppose Kagan’s nomination. Ask that he filibuster her nomination if necessary, in order to stop it.
