The powers to be are searching for a name change that won’t be offensive to, well, almost everyone on the planet. Sky News US contributor Cameron Stewart says he expects “a strong reaction from Beijing” after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo formally declared China’s claim to disputed territories in the South China Sea to be illegal. Mr Stewart said the declaration was “a step forward and a harder line from the US”, adding the timing of the statement did not go unnoticed. “This is part of Donald Trump’s attempt to put pressure on Beijing,” he said.

“Of course tensions between the two are very high at the moment. “But this is a real statement from the US, and I think you’ll find in the next couple of hours we’ll have a strong reaction from Beijing.”
