The 1984 United States presidential election was held on Tuesday, November 6, 1984. Incumbent Republican President Ronald Reagan defeated former Vice President Walter Mondale, the Democratic candidate. U.S. Representative Geraldine Ferraro of New York was his running mate, the first woman to be on a major party’s presidential ticket.
Reagan won a landslide re-election victory, carrying 49 of the 50 states. Mondale won only his home state of Minnesota and the District of Columbia.Reagan won 525 of the 538 electoral votes, the most of any presidential candidate in U.S. history.
