The Shoot-Out at Congress this past Friday was a sight to behold. Congress passes stopgap funding bill, avoiding government shutdown and adding $14B for submarines
WASHINGTON — Less than an hour after a the midnight deadline to trigger a government shutdown, the Senate on early Saturday followed the House and overwhelmingly approved a stopgap funding bill that keeps federal funding rolling until mid-March and adds $14 billion for submarines.
The bill, approved 85-11, was the third deal floated this week amid a Republican back-and-forth in which President-elect Donald Trump and billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk played starring roles. On Friday evening, the House approved the bill in a 366-34-1 vote in which Republicans made up the only “nay” votes.
In the end, House and Senate Democrats backed the bill after the White House voiced reluctant support.
The original CR of 1547 pages was replaced with one that passed, but had only 118 pages. Gee, what happened to the other 1400 pages? Must have been a lot of fat that got chucked into rubbish barrel.
House and Senate have some explaining to do to their children, grandchildren and great grand children who will be saddled with 36 trillion in debt. Are they getting the picture? The U.S. is on the track of Zimbabwe, where their one hundred trillion note is not worth the paper it is printed on..
