US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Wednesday he is imposing sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the United Nations’ special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, over her efforts to have the International Criminal Court take action against US and Israeli officials, companies, and executives.
“Albanese’s campaign of political and economic warfare against the United States and Israel will no longer be tolerated,” Rubio said in a post on X/Twitter.
“We will always stand by our partners in their right to self-defense. The United States will continue to take whatever actions we deem necessary to respond to lawfare and protect our sovereignty and that of our allies,” Rubio added.
“I support US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s decision to impose sanctions on the ‘human rights activist’ Francesca Albanese, who has demonstrated antisemitic behavior,” Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, said.
“Her relentless, one-sided campaign against Israel and the United States has long crossed the line between defending human rights and spreading antisemitic propaganda,” Danon added.
‘Albanese consistently undermines UN credibility’
“Albanese consistently undermines the credibility of the UN by promoting false and dangerous narratives that are completely detached from reality. We will not remain silent, and we will continue exposing the antisemitic forces operating under the guise of the UN,” he concluded.

A report by United Nations Watch on Wednesday is urging democratic nations to impose sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian human rights, accusing her of promoting antisemitism, supporting terrorism, and spreading misinformation.
Titled “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing: Why Democracies Should Sanction UN Rapporteur Francesca Albanese,” the report was presented to the UN Human Rights Council on October 23, 2024.
The report calls for Albanese’s removal, citing a series of statements and actions that violate UN impartiality standards and promote hatred against Israel and the Jewish people. UN Watch, a Geneva-based human rights group, demands swift action to terminate her mandate.
