Up to 6,000 Russians may have been killed in Ukraine so far, U.S. official estimates
Between 5,000 and 6,000 Russian troops may have been killed in just the first two weeks of the invasion of Ukraine, a U.S. official estimated Wednesday. The official stressed, however, that this is a difficult number to assess in real time, and the number could be closer to 3,500.
Still, the official described the number as “very, very significant casualties,” comparing the tally to losses from some World War II battles. The official did not give an estimate for the number of wounded Russians, but the figure in most wars is generally around three times as many killed, which would put that number at an estimated 15,000 to 18,000.
Despite the estimated losses, Russian forces are still capable of encircling Kyiv within 1-2 weeks.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg sidestepped answering whether Russia potentially using chemical weapons in its invasion of Ukraine would spur NATO to rethink imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine.
“It does sound like what you’re saying is you don’t have an answer yet on what the use of chemical weapons would do to NATO’s stance about Ukraine,” “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd told Stoltenberg Sunday morning.
“Any use of chemical weapons will be a blatant and brutal violation of international law – the ban on the use of chemical weapons. At the same time we know that Russia has used chemical agents in Europe before against their own political opponents,” Stoltenberg told Todd.
UN: 902 civilians in Ukraine dead since Russian invasion started
The U.N. human rights office (OHCHR) reported Sunday that at least 902 civilians in Ukraine have been killed since the start of Russia’s invasion.
A further 1,459 civilians have been injured in that time.
The number for both is likely higher than what the U.N. has been able to record.

Russia orders deployment of cadets: Ukrainian Defense Ministry
Ukrainian defense officials claimed Sunday to have obtained documents that indicate Russia has ordered the deployment of cadets to Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly told his people that the army is not utilizing cadets, but photos of the documents posted online indicate that Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has signed an order to the contrary.
The deployment will see Yunarmia cadets aged 17 and 18 pushed to the frontlines in Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry gave its first official accounting of casualties in the war in Ukraine, saying late Wednesday that 498 soldiers had been killed and more than 1,500 wounded.
It also said that more than 2,800 Ukrainian troops had died in the fighting.
Ukraine’s military said more than 5,800 Russian troops have been killed in action. Kyiv hasn’t said how many of its own service members have died.
Neither the Russian nor Ukrainian figures could be verified independently.
Moscow has sought to play down the extent of the fighting involved in its invasion of Ukraine. For much of the first week of the war, the Russian Defense Ministry limited its public comments to saying that the losses it had suffered were significantly lower than those on the Ukrainian side, without providing details.

“I am just amazed that the New York Times just now came to the conclusion that the Hunter Biden laptop was genuine,” Johnson, of Wisconsin, told host John Catsimatidis on WABC 770 AM’s “The Cats Roundtable.”
“Where have they been? That was pretty obvious within a week or two of the New York Post’s stories.”
The senator was referring to The Post’s exclusive reports in October 2020 on the first son’s foreign business dealings and his connection to Ukrainian energy firm Burisma while his father, Joe Biden, was vice president.
“The FBI had to know that. They wouldn’t tell us when we were offered the laptop. I couldn’t take it because I had to do my due diligence. The FBI knew,” Johnson said in the interview that aired Sunday.
“We reached out to the FBI. They wouldn’t tell us it was genuine. They should have. But they didn’t. People should be outraged,” he said.
The laptop, left at a Delaware computer repair shop by Hunter Biden, contained a trove of emails detailing his business relationships in Ukraine and China, which implicated his father.
Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, an attorney for then-President Donald Trump, obtained the laptop and turned it over to The Post, which authenticated its contents by interviewing the computer shop owner and Biden cronies whose emails were found on the hard drive.

The Biden family has received funds, millions of dollars, in some cases and tens of millions of dollars from powerful individuals connected to the government in each of those countries. That’s the first factor.
They admit the laptop is real and what that reveals is Hunter Biden received these funds but the president of the United States, Joe Biden, was a recipient and beneficiary of those funds. Hunter Biden and Joe Biden had intermingled finances and Hunter Biden was paying monthly bills, paying for repairs on his home.
This is a story that goes straight to the president. Each of these countries, particularly China, has a policy of using commercial ties and financial ties as leverage over foreign elites and they clearly have that in this case with Joe Biden.

As it relates to the $31 million, that comes from the laptop. Ths are the deals that are enunciated. There are e-mails in which foreign nationals are saying, ‘I just acquired $5 million into your account please confirm receipt,’ so it’s clear in black-and-white, but it’s important to point out in the case of China the $31 million came from four Chinese businessmen each one with links to the highest level of Chinese intelligence.

SCHWEIZER: Yeah, in fact, I think this “New York Times” piece, the fact that they got cooperation from Team Biden and probably from the Hunter Biden legal team, is an indication that they are extremely concerned he’s going to be indicted. This grand jury has been meeting since 2018. They were suspended during Covid because of healthcare protocols. It’s back up and running and it’s very clear that when it comes to the issues related to the tax evasion and money laundering and the other issues wrapped up with it, they are extremely concerned Hunter Biden’s going to be indicted. And I think this article is an effort to frame the conversation in a way that could be the most favorable to them.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is becoming a “pariah,” an outcast, before the world stage amid his ongoing invasion of Ukraine, foreign policy experts say.
While experts believe it’s too soon to determine whether Putin will be successful in his attempts to take control of Ukraine — acknowledging that there will likely be some form of a partial victory — it is clear that the Russian dictator has done irreversible damage to his own country with the invasion.
Russia’s pariah status
“On the global scale, Russia will turn into a pariah. … It has already been on that path for several years and definitely the last year. Putin has been a pariah for even longer,” former Defense Intelligence Agency specialist Rebekah Koffler, who was born in Russia, told Fox News Digital. “The deal with Putin is that he would rather be feared than [ignored] because fear, in Russian culture, means respect. He is quite used to the pariah status.”
While Koffler believes “a segment of the Russian population” is antiwar and sees what is happening in Ukraine, she noted that Russians have voted Putin into office four times.

“They don’t think like Americans. They think like Russians. They have always wanted somebody who is as strong as Putin, bordering on being brutal, because that’s what Russians believe is good for the country’s security,” Koffler explained, adding that “Russian propaganda” is very effective in swaying civilians.
Conversely, Robert English, a professor of Central European Studies at the University of Southern California, believes Putin will face growing opposition at home.
“I think Putin’s future is grim. I think, at home, he will be under the constant threat of opposition — possibly of a coup, some kind of power grab — to remove him because even his closest allies are now seeing the problem,” English said. “And if they gain less by staying loyal than they would if he’s replaced, it’s just a matter of how to do it.”
Even once Russia’s war in Ukraine has concluded and Putin is no longer in power, the reputational damage of the invasion “will cripple Russia for a generation to come,” according to English.
