He would go on to teach Islam at mosques across the country from Denver to San Diego and Virginia, where US officials believe he used his platform to radicalize and recruit terrorists.
It was at a San Diego Mosque where he met 9/11 hijackers Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al-Mihdhar – two of the men who flew Flight 77 into the Pentagon that morning in 2001, killing 190 people – and by 2006 he was arrested in Yemen on suspicion of terrorist ties.
Three years later he was communicating with the Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan — who gunned down 13 people at the Texas Army base — and was also tied to “Underwear Bomber” Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who tried to blow up a Detroit-bound Northwest Airlines plane on Christmas day 2009 with bombs hidden in his shorts.
Al-Awlaki was killed in a US airstrike ordered by Obama in 2011 in Yemen, months after he was declared a “specially designated global terrorist.” The hit was controversial with civil rights groups at the time, since it was the first killing of an American in a targeted strike.
It has long been known al-Awlaki was educated in the US, but the recent scrutiny of USAID’s far-reaching and often frivolous spending by the Trump administration has thrown a new light on its part in educating a terrorist.

President Donald Trump detailed his plans to instruct DOGE lead, Elon Musk, to probe the Education and Defense Departments for wasteful spending. The President told Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier in an exclusive pre-Super Bowl interview that the billionaire entrepreneur has been a trustworthy ally in fulfilling his promise to cut the red tape.
“He’s not gaining anything. In fact, I wonder how he can devote the time to it,” Trump said.
Baier’s interview with Trump, slated to air during a special 3 p.m. time slot on Sunday — mere hours before the Super Bowl LIX coin toss — will focus on the changes the Trump administration has enacted since his inauguration last month and the first 100 days of his presidency.
Among those changes has been implementing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Since Jan. 20, the department aimed at upending federal agencies has traced where money has been going.
The moves have been met with outrage from some Democrats, including a group who attempted to enter the Department of Education in light of possible cuts last week. Thirty House Democrats attempted to enter the Department of Education building in Washington, D.C., on Friday morning to meet with acting Education Secretary Denise L. Carter, but they were stopped by security.
President Donald Trump and Republicans have advocated shutting down the Department of Education, saying that the states are better equipped to handle education. Trump on Tuesday said that if Linda McMahon, his pick for education secretary, is confirmed, she should work to “put herself out of a job.”
Tulsi Gabbard appears to be seeking to assuage senators’ concerns about her nomination in a new opinion piece explaining why she thought “traitor” was too harsh a word for Edward Snowden.
Gabbard, President Donald Trump’s pick for director of national intelligence (DNI), did not endorse Snowden’s whistleblowing actions during her confirmation hearing, but her refusal to call him a traitor left some Republicans unsettled.
She admitted that Snowden’s release of classified information to the media “harmed our national security” but also “revealed illegal and unconstitutional government programs that conducted mass surveillance of millions of Americans’ data.”

If printing paper was money, why seek gold in the first place? “TRUST” in government is the number one priority of a stable currency; without trust, citizens resort to the accumulation of precious metals; this is to secure their wealth.
