European leaders have moved closer to cutting Russia off from the SWIFT banking system as Germany remains the sole holdout over implementing the extreme measure following the invasion of Ukraine.
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine Thursday local time. World leaders and diplomats widely condemned the attack and promised strong sanctions in response.
Foreign ministers of the Baltic States and Poland wanted to cut Russia from SWIFT as part of the initial wave of sanctions, but Germany, Italy, Hungary and Cyprus resisted the move.

More specifically: Will Washington and its allies react any differently if the next aggressor is China, and the next target Taiwan?
Like Ukraine, Taiwan is a US security partner not protected by any formal treaty. The Taiwan Relations Act requires the Pentagon to support Taiwan’s efforts to protect itself but does not mandate the US military defend Taiwan if it comes under attack.

But there are some reasons for hope. Taiwan is separated from mainland China by about 90 miles of water, making an invasion challenging and more obvious than Russia’s slow buildup across Ukraine’s eastern border during the last decade. And although Taiwan is not optimized for the defensive mission, its attack helicopters and warships are arguably better suited to counter Chinese amphibious forces than Ukraine’s military is against Russia’s precision missiles and high-end aircraft.

Russian President Vladimir Putin would not have invaded Ukraine had President Trump still been in office, a majority of Americans said according to the results of a new poll.
The survey released Friday from the Harvard Center for American Political Studies (CAPS)-Harris Poll found that 62% of Americans believed Putin would not have pulled the trigger if Trump were still president, The Hill reported.
The view was held by an overwhelming 85% of Republicans, but also 38% of Democrats. A further 59% of voters said Putin had decided to invade because Putin sensed weakness on the part of President Biden, while just 41% said that view had not played a role in Putin’s decision.
The online poll was conducted between Feb. 23 and Feb. 24 and surveyed 2,026 registered voters.

The Russia-Ukraine war continues on the front burner of the marketplace to end the trading week. There is still risk aversion in the marketplace. However, it can be argued that marketplace anxiety is not as high as it was early Thursday, amid the reports Russia may negotiate. Also, U.S. and western country sanctions against Russia are being deemed not as severe as expected, including no sanctions on Russian crude oil or natural gas industries. Also, President Biden reiterated Thursday that the U.S. has no plans to get the world’s most powerful military involved in the Russia-Ukraine war. In other words, the major economies of the world will stand by and watch the war unfold, with the likely outcome a complete Russian takeover of Ukraine. As the marketplace continues to digest this matter, a main worry remains a mistake made by either Russia or NATO that would suck the West into the conflagration.
The bottom line: Sleepy Joe’s mouth is a holster for Vlad’s six shooter. Why do we say this? Joe gave Vlad the Go-ahead, where Trump would not. Secondly, China has entered the picture as an honest broker. Do you believe this? On two fronts yesterday we observed Amateurs reacting completely opposite of that of Professionals. On the Gold front 
we saw a buying binge of Gold and Selling binge of Stocks; these were Amateurs on both fronts. The Professionals swooned in like birds of prey, sold gold and purchased stocks. An outside observer could not have imagined such a confusing scene.
On the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, tanks moving in, bombs softening the defensive positions on the command of COMMRADE PUTIN.
This action was telegraphed for two weeks giving the Ukraine army time to move their reinforcements to counter the insurgency. Apparently Vlad the Impaler 
did not anticipate the fight Ukrainians had in them. Reports of Russians being killed, planes shot down are reaching the Motherland – opposition on the Home-Front is growing. Will Vlad go to the Nuclear Option? Only time will tell.
