Walkie-talkies, solar equipment and other devices exploded suddenly Wednesday at the site of a funeral for three Hezbollah members and a child killed by exploding pagers the day before, according to Associated Press journalists at the scene.
Lebanon’s health ministry says that 20 people were killed and over 450 were wounded in Wednesday’s explosions.
Hezbollah and the Lebanese government are blaming Israel for Tuesday’s attack.

- A sales executive at the U.S. subsidiary of Japanese walkie-talkie maker Icom told The Associated Press that the exploded radio devices in Lebanon appear to be a knockoff product and not made by Icom.
- “I can guarantee you they were not our products,” said Ray Novak, a senior sales manager for Icom America’s amateur radio division, in an interview Wednesday at a trade show in Providence, Rhode Island.
- Novak said Icom introduced the V82 two-way radio model more than two decades ago and it has long since been discontinued. It was favored by amateur radio operators and for use in social or emergency communications, including by people tracking tornadoes or hurricanes, he said.
- Novak said he spent all day fielding calls and trying to dispel misinformation about Icom’s discontinued device. He showed a reporter on his cellphone how easy it is to find counterfeit versions of the product sold online.

This was an ingenious plan, paging the members of Hezbollah concurrently. There is only one organization that could pull off such a caper. The result being a devastation to the communication abilities of Iran’s funded terrorist organization. Israel has not claimed responsibility for this caper, but from all accounts it was attributed to them.
Hungary-based pagers manufacturing company BAC Consulting, which manufactured the pagers that exploded across Lebanon on Tuesday, was an Israeli shell company, the New York Times reported on Thursday, citing three intelligence officers.
The three officers further said that an additional two shell companies were created, which, the NYT noted, assisted in hiding the identities of those involved in manufacturing the pagers.
The report explained that while the company did produce regular pagers for other clients, those manufactured for Hezbollah were “produced separately, they contained batteries laced with explosive.”
Nasrallah bans use of cell phones
Moreover, according to three defense officials, Nasrallah also ordered Hezbollah officers to carry pagers at all times and banned cell phones from organization meetings. He also reportedly ordered officers to refrain from communicating any details concerning Hezbollah’s movements and plans through cell phones.
Since his speech, there was a significant increase in shipments of pagers to Lebanon, with thousands reportedly arriving and being distributed to Hezbollah officers and their allies, the New York Times cited two American intelligence officials.
Hezbollah leader to deliver speech in wake of deadly attacks
We’re expecting Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, to deliver an address about the exploding devices attacks at 15:00 BST.
Nasrallah has yet to speak publicly about the device explosions, but in a statement on Wednesday, Hezbollah vowed to continue its support for Hamas in Gaza and said Israel faced a “difficult reckoning”.
The Lebanon-based militant group said it had used rockets to target Israeli artillery positions near the Israel-Lebanon border and in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Hezbollah official also told Reuters that the device explosions were the “biggest security breach” for the group since its conflict with Israel stepped-up after the 7 October attacks that Hamas launched on Israel from Gaza.
Nasrallah, 64, is a Lebanese cleric and has been head of Hezbollah since 1992, overseeing it for most of the group’s existence.

Oregon’s Secretary of State defended the automatic voter registration program responsible
Oregon Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade says the 306 people “will be notified by mail that they will not receive a ballot unless they demonstrate that they are eligible to vote.”
The Oregon DMV admitted on Friday to wrongfully registering at least 306 non-citizens to vote in U.S. elections.
The DMV says the wrongful registrations have occurred since 2021 and were the result of a program that automatically registered anyone who obtained a driver’s license or state ID. State officials say they expect to find more wrongful registrations ahead of Election Day.
Oregon has allowed non-citizens to obtain diver’s licenses since 2019. Of the 306 people identified, just two have cast ballots in an election since 2021.

AUSTIN, Texas – Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., suggested that “30%” of Republican voters will never vote for Democrats because of their racism, sexism and homophobia.
Speaking at the 2024 Texas Tribune Festival on Saturday, Pelosi was pressed by podcast host Kara Swisher on why the presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump is so close.
“There are people who will never be, shall we say, inclined to support Democrats because of – they just have a different orientation toward women, people of color, LGBTQ, you know, they just are not ever going to be there,” Pelosi said. “So, say that’s about like 30% or something like that… of the Republicans.
